Adelaide Primary Health Network (PHN): Integrating Health Care and Research Across Adelaide
PC4 is delighted to be partnering with Adelaide Primary Health Network (PHN) for the 2026 Scientific Symposium. As the Gold Partner for the event to be held on Wednesday 9 September 2026, Adelaide PHN will play an important role in helping us deliver an impactful event dedicated to advancing ground-breaking cancer research in primary care and continuously improving health outcomes for South Australians affected by cancer.
Adelaide PHN is a not-for-profit organisation funded by the Australian Government that works to improve the health and wellbeing of people in metropolitan Adelaide by addressing local health needs and strengthening primary care. Committed to delivering better care, Adelaide PHN is building on their unique ability to connect local health care professionals with researchers to drive innovative approaches to improve community services and health outcomes.
As a part of their multi-faceted research enhancement strategy, Adelaide has launched the Primary Health Research Interest Group, in partnership with Flinders University and Health Translation South Australia, strengthening their research capability and creating 16 forums targeting primary healthcare research discussion. This has contributed to Adelaide PHN’s five successful research grant applications through partnerships with research institutions, securing $9.2 million in funding and $292,520 in in-kind contributions, and a further $19.6 million funding for joint research projects through their research partnerships between 2023 and 2025.
Adelaide PHN’s strategic partnership with Flinders University’s Caring Futures Institute (CFI) demonstrates their collaborative influence, strengthening research capacity, impact and reach. Since 2025, they have supported 27 research proposals led by institutions across Australia (though letters of support, in-kind expertise and leadership on project steering committees).
The Adelaide PHN-CFI partnership has delivered:
- Nine peer-reviewed publications
- 32 conference presentations both nationally and internationally, with 44 instances of PHN staff authorship and seven presentations delivered by PHN staff
- Two staff undertaking Industry PhDs and two hosed PhD candidates
A/Prof Carolyn Ee, PC4 Director and collaborator in the Adelaide PHN-CFI partnership, has highlighted the advantages of undertaking research in collaboration with a local PHN. “Adelaide PHN understands the needs of the community and local health care professionals and providers. They know what will work at a practical level and leverage existing services and relationships to improve research design and implementation.”
