Our People

The Primary Care Collaborative Cancer Clinical Trials Group (PC4) was established in February 2009. The expertise of our members covers all aspects of the cancer continuum from prevention to palliative care. Our community advisory group contributes to all of our activities, providing advice on research concepts and future directions from a consumer perspective.

Our vision is:

  • To prevent cancer in the community.
  • To improve care and outcomes for people affected by cancer.
  • To influence health care policy.
  • To promote best practice cancer care.

Message from the Director

My name is Jon Emery, and I’m the Herman Professor of Primary Care Cancer Research at The University of Melbourne and Western Health. I led the development of PC4 because I believed there was a need for a national approach to cancer research in primary care. Australia has many talented researchers in this area, but we lack the support that a national organisation can provide. The framework PC4 provides will enable the development of pre-trial work to evolve into large scale, multi-site clinical trials, which will inform new models of cancer prevention and management in the community. Consumers are the most important part of our vision and their contribution is integrated into every aspect of our work.
