Implementation of a lung cancer multidisciplinary team standardised template for reporting to general practitioners (GPs)

This mixed-methods study aimed to develop, implement and evaluate a standardised template for lung cancer multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) in order to provide clinical information and treatment recommendations to GPs. Two hospitals in Sydney, Australia and 61 GPs evaluated the template, alongside two lung cancer MDTs who participated in the development and implementation strategy. Results showed that 95% of GPs strongly agreed or agreed that the template provided useful and relevant information, that it was received in a timely manner (90%) and that the information was easy to interpret and communicate to the patient (84%). With a growing need to improve communication between primary and specialist care, this study demonstrates the feasibility and acceptability of a standardised template for reporting clinical information from MDTs to GPs.
