In this episode, Dr Jennifer McIntosh and Professor Lyndal Trevena discuss being a General Practitioner and embarking on a research career. How do GPs navigate their clinical research and their practice? Lyndal discusses in depth the challenges and successes of being a GP and clinical researcher. She talks about the importance of mentors early in her career and grasping opportunities as they come. She recalls the beginning era of shared decision making in the early 2000s when she was a PhD student and highlights that her passion has continued in this area and she is currently working on developing the International Society of Shared Decision-Making group. From a mid-career point of view, she talks about realising she was a mid-career researcher near the end of her PhD when she became more confident in obtaining Grants and Academic employment.
