Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients’ cancer care pathways in Queensland: Insights from health professionals
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples in Australia often experience poorer cancer outcomes. This study aimed to identify points within our healthcare system that could be targeted to improve the continuity of care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients with cancer. 26 primary health care and hospital-based health care professionals were interviewed. The results identified that the provision of culturally competent care, effective communication, and collaboration between services along the cancer care continuum are all important areas that could be improved to provide better continuity of care.
